HIST 205 Lecture 1: Civil War and Reconstruction
Document Summary
It is hard to cover a topic that still so profoundly affects american society within one session of the course. That said, our focus is topical and more focused on the 20th century. So please forgive me if i do not cover the civil war in its entirety, with all its ins- and outs, with all its injustices and motivations. So the fo(cid:272)us for our purposes (cid:449)ill lie (cid:449)ith the (cid:271)roader the(cid:373)es e(cid:454)plored i(cid:374) this (cid:272)ourse, (cid:374)ot (cid:858)ho(cid:449) to load a (cid:373)usket(cid:859) ;) We talked some about modern life so far and in a way, the civil war served as the turning point for the (cid:449)hole (cid:272)ou(cid:374)tr(cid:455). The (cid:271)egi(cid:374)(cid:374)i(cid:374)g of (cid:858)(cid:373)oder(cid:374)(cid:859) life has (cid:373)a(cid:374)(cid:455) defi(cid:374)itio(cid:374)s (cid:271)ut for (cid:373)e, (cid:373)oder(cid:374) life is defi(cid:374)ed socially. The break happened when old values, virtues, and ideals did not work any longer for society. In part of the united states this happened very early on.
