Insect- an insect is described as having 6 legs and a body divided into 3 parts. 3 subdisciplines of forensic entomolgy: urban entomology, stored products entomology, medicolegal entomology. Urban entomology- concentrates on controversies mostly arising from cockroaches, termites, bed bugs and other insects in human environment: nursing home neglects, house damage, pet neglect. Stored products entomology- disputes of insects or insect parts in food and other products: caterpillars in cans of vegetables, maggots in fast food meat, insect debris in cereal. Use of insects found associated with a crime. Associated with body found and asked to determine how long the body could"ve been there. Sometimes asked to determine cause of death- such as bee stings if allergic. Blow flies can arrive at body within 15 minutes after death. Ecological succession: the orderly and predictable changes in community structure through time. Postmortem changes of a body depend on many factors.
