Geology GEOL-G 107 Lecture 20: Energy Lecutre
Document Summary
Natural gas sourced energy increased from 5% to 10% Renewable sources like wind, solar and hydroelectric increased from 1% 5o 4% Non-renewable energy: energy sources that cannot be replaced. Include; petroleum, natural gas, coal, and nuclear power. Renewable energy: comes from sources that are replaceable or infinite. In 2008 most of the energy was generated from non-renewable resources, mostly by burning coal. By 2013 the diversification of energy decreases the amount of coal-fired power plants and used other energy sources. Almost 47% of our energy is consumed by industrial activities. Less than 19% is consumed by the population in our daily home lives. Electricity is generated by using these sources of energy, wind sourced energy to create electricity. Energy from burning fossil fuels like coal and natural gas is used to produce steam. The steam spins a turbine, then spins a generator. The generator creates a current to move electrons.
