Goal of life: self-actualization: become fully-functioning person who realizes their potential. Self-concept: a person"s perception of the self. Congruence: when there is lots of overlap between your real self and ideal self. Person accepted and loved regardless of behavior. Person open to change, non-defensive, can grow. Person accepted and loved only if they behave in certain ways. Conditions of worth: have to meet these demands from people to obtain love and affection. Anxiety, self-destructive behavior, uses up energy that could be used for growth. Began with study of animal behavior; not enthused. Should study people who have unusually good psychological health. Accept themselves and others as they are. Set of their own goals and values independent ions of their actions. Renewed pleasure in every sunset: every encounter with a baby.
