Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 (PAPACA like
Alpaca!)
Three Main Goals:
• Cover the uninsured by subsidizing coverage
o There are a lot of them, # of children uninsured has rmained
stable while the # of uninsured adults has grown
• Increase regulation of private health insurers
o will not be able to use health status to determine cost of
health coverage
• Reduce healthcare spending (“bend the curve”)
o By 2020 we are expected to spend 20% of our GDP on
healthcare
KNOW SEVERABILITY!
• If part of the law is ruled as unconstitutional, the whole law is not
struck down, just parts of it.
