Chapter 1: understand the concepts of learning and behavior. 2: relate behavior analysis to the medical model. What is learning: learning = change in behavior due to experience. What is behavior: behavior = anything that someone or something does that can be measured. A dog eats a bug that makes it sick and, consequently, it never eats the same type of bug again. Many other fields of psychology use what are called circular explanations : jim is screaming and kicking other people because he is angry. Does really tell him what made him angry. Why are they useful: easily observed, easily measured, easier to modify behavior with precise definitions. Not 100% precise, but better than using the circular explanations and definitions. Takes internals things and makes them actions . Excesses behaviors occur too often, causes problems. Deficits behaviors occur infrequently, cause problems. Behavior modification decreases excesses and increase deficits.
