Breed- a substantial number of animals within a given species that possess a certain common characteristic that differ from others within the species and that pass these characteristics onto their progeny(offspring) Selective breeding- process of breeding for particular genetic traits; selective breeding is synonymous with artificial selection; techniques such as cross breeding, inbreeding, linebreeding and outcrossing are used. Purebreds- achieved through the process of selective breeding or geographic isolation. Breed registry- organization or association whose goal is to produce horses with similar characteristics. ; allows strengthing of the breed by allowing outside individuals who conform to the breed standard. Purebred arab- require horse to be verified based on dna typing as verified by pedigree, sire and dam must be registed with the association or can come from another purebred arabian studbook that s recognized. Half arab- must have one registered arabian parent, other parent must be a purebred of another breed, a grade horse or half arabian.
