Document Summary

Patriarchy-literally translates to mean rule of the father . It is used to describe any social system that is male dominated at all levels rom. The family, to the highest reaches of government. It is a social structural phenomenon in which males have the privilege of dominating over females, visibly and subliminally: things now are changing for women, patriarchy is losing its rule of the father meaning. Women are doing manly jobs while balancing other roles. It was hard to get incest to be seen as a crime. In 1975 it was overturned, 103 years later: until 1918, women couldn"t join the american bar association, even with the education required. In 1928, women were finally allowed to enter columbia law school: not until 1950 were women allowed to attend harvard. It will take until 2059 for women to have pay equality.
