It is possible for others to know more about our external traits : self is reliant on social situation and is hence a social construct, descriptions made by enhancing features that make people stand out, social comparison theory. If uncertain of aspects, people assimilate themselves with peers. Autobiographical memories: flashbulb memories, can be distorted, people usually have favourable memories of themselves. Culture: upbringing and cultural norms can influence a person"s self-concept, the four i"s. 1: differences between individualistic and collectivistic cultures. Strive for achievement of status for a valued group. Self-esteem: people are social animals, primitive need to connect with others.
