Bureaucracy: exercise of control on the basis of knowledge, expertise, or experience. Mary parker follett: developed approach of integrative conflict resolution. Hawthorne study: work place is complex, workers are not just extensions of machine. Group norms have a big influence on how productive a work place is. Chester barnard: proposed a comprehensive theory of cooperation in formal organizations. Organization: system of coordinated activities or forces created by two or more people. Contingency approach to management: there are no universal management theories.
