Based on the assumption that no one wants to read what you write: engage readers from the beginning to the end. Character: doer of the action, should be simple, concrete, and human. Clause must have subject and predicate: can stand alone as a sentence=independent clause, can"t stand alone=dependent clause. Phrase functions as grammatical unit, but does not have a subject and predicate. 4 types: simple sentence-single independent clause, compound sentence-two independent clauses + conjunction, complex sentence-independent clause and dependent clause + conjunction, compound complex sentence-two or more independent clauses and a dependent clauses. Capital letters: first word of a sentence, first word of direct quotes, pronoun i , proper nouns, titles, trademarks.
