By now, everyone should be familiar with the writing process, the elements of rhetoric, and the appeals. Now, we need to think about the role that rhetorical analysis plays in our lives. In other words, rhetorical analysis can be likened to looking at someone"s strategy in addition to their results. For instance, you could ask your classmate for answers on the big math test, but it would be better to understand how s/he uses the formulas to get those answers, since they may or may not be accurate. Another way to think about this is to think about movie reviews. Every time a blockbuster film comes out, there are several reviews that all review different aspects of the film. Some review the plot, characters, and the actors" performances. Others review the use of special effects and technology in the film, and still others might choose to compare the interpretation of the film from a book it may be based upon.
