Some, like the french, were focused on converting native populations. They also had huge expanses of land claimed for commerce- traded with native. Did not have a problem with mingling with native americans. Trade also made native americans dependent on traders. White americans believed they were more civilized and deserved native american land, who they thought were savages. Interestingly, many tribes like the cherokee conformed to many american ideals: written language, newspapers, taking the us govt to court. Jackson overruled court"s decision and forced removal of cherokees. Move of native americans led to inter tribal warfare with western and eastern tribes. Point of view of president jackson and his allies. Reassuring the public that this was the right decision. Pleased with himself and progress with this. Reasons why the indian removal is a good thing for natives and settlers.
