Business Process Reengineering (BPR)
Business Process
oA set of activities that once completed, accomplish a company’s task or goal
Business Process Reengineering (BPR)
oThe analysis and redesign of workflows within and between enterprises in order to
optimize business processes
oThe purpose of BPR is to make business processes as good as possible
oBefore engaging in BPR, a company has to identify business processes that can be
improved by redesigning them
oFor each such process, BPR includes
Creating a diagram of the “As-Is” process
Depicting how the process is done currently
Reviewing and analyzing the “As-Is” process
Creating a diagram of the “To-Be”
Depicting how the process can be done better, differently
Testing and implementing “To-Be” process, to replace the existing process
oBusiness Process Loop
In order to achieve improvements, business processes can undertake different useful types of
changes
oAutomating
Changing the business process by automating it
oStreamlining
Changing the business process by removing unnecessary, outmoded, or
inefficient steps and methods in the process
Example
oBPR
Changing the business process not by performing the same process faster,
cheaper and more efficient, but by completely redesigning the process
