Document Summary

Developmental psychology: the study of age related change in behavior, mental processes, and stages of growth from conception to death. Nature: genetic predisposition -- inherited traits -- dna. Diabetes, high blood pressure, eye color, some cancers. People who live by nature theory believe the personality is born. Maturation -- continuous impact heredity has on your development. The environmental components that have an impact on your physical/emotional development place you grow up -- environment, positive and negative experiences, needs being met, religion, relationship with parents, stressors. Combined creates a person, not just one or the other. Longitudinal: long term study -- takes the same subjects (groups) -- study this group for years -- some question they are looking to answer. Pros: get to see each step of individual development -- intimately involved the entire time. Cons: expensive, time consuming, difficult to keep track of people for a long time.
