Entry of a pathogen or antigen into the body: the antigen or pathogen is engulfed by a macrophage or apc cell. Antigens are processed and attached to an mhc ii receptor: the mhc ii receptor and the attached antigen are externally expressed on the surface of the apc. These activated t helper cells will then go on to interact with and activate cytotoxic t-cells and b-cells after specializing. If il-12 or interferon is in the environment the t helper cell exposed start cloning themselves and are transformed into th1 type of t-helper cells: these will then interact with the cellular immune system. If il-4 is in the environment the th2 type of t helper cell is preferentially produced. Antigens of endogenous origin are presented on the exterior of bad cell by being attached to mhc 1 receptor. Immunocomepent cytotoxic t cells bind to that specific antigen on the surface of the bad cell.
