Traps particles, pathogens, parasites, and toxins: found in the nasal, trachea, mouth eyes, and gut. Produced in various thickness, viscosities, and amounts. Symbionts in the gut prevent parasites and other bacteria from attaching to the gut wall: flushing: moves material along a passage quick and removes it. Found in gut, nose, eyes, and urinary tract: digestive actions: of the gut and enzymes in mucus. These also are an important part of specific immunities: fever: a pyrogenic response to foreign proteins in tissues and circulation. Creates an environment inhibiting progression of infection: inflammation: a general reaction involving fluid and cellular responses which block invader movements, operate to remove invaders, and setup conditions for repair.
