Vygotsky- preschools, quality daycare, language programs i. e: literacy devices, language window(literacy here) pre-5. Memories are stored with association- pain, smell etc. Prefrontal cortex- brain"s executive control center (self care, time management, conflict resolution) Neurons- cells that make all brain functions possible. Exposure to an enriched learning environment stimulates neurons. When stimulated neurons reach out to neighboring neurons by growing dendrites. With repeated stimulation the # of connections between neurons increases. Plasticity- the brain"s capacity for structural change as the result of experience. Stimulating environments give the brain a great deal of info to process, store, remember, and later use to solve problems. Increased interconnectivity expands one"s info processing capacity, speed, and efficiency. *adaptations and schemas: piaget"s theory* pg 76. Adaptation- adjusting to the demands of the environments. Schemas- basic mental structures for organizing info (categories) Behavioral schemas- mental representations of physical actions. Symbolic schemas- language-based representations of objects and events.
