Most people identify with a specific place with their identity. Identifying with a place may also imply exclusion of other people and stereotyping of other places. People reinforce their sense of place by contrasting themselves with places and people they feel are very different. Persistent attachment of individuals or peoples to a specific location or territory. Field of v: scientific study of the formation and evolution of human customs and beliefs. Territory provides a source of physical safety and security, also a physical expression of identity. Territorial urge also can be observed when people become frustrated because of overcrowding. Crowding is linked to vandalism and assault to promiscuity and clinical depression. Proxemics: study of social and cultural meanings that people give to personal space. These meanings make for unwritten territorial rules. On larger scales, territoriality is a product of political relations and cultural systems. All social organizations and individuals in them are bound to some formal or informal territory limits.
