Silk comes from silkworms, it is boiled and forms strong material that can be pulled apart and weaved together. The process of making silk has not changed since it came about in china. Were being challenged by nomads, they defeated the nomads. More than silk was traded on the silk road: art, religion, philosophies, Inspired the idea of exploration diseases, science, language, etc . Opened long distance political and economic relations. Ended in 1453 ce: ottoman turks boycotted the road and eventually shut it down. Silk road became sea trade----> age of discovery. Used silk for clothes, drapes, banners and diplomatic gifts. Roman empire also began using silk for the same thing. Syncretism: when different beliefs combine while blending practices and beliefs. On the decline now because artificial fibers have been created and replaced the need for silk. Japan was the first to apply scientific techniques to silkworm.
