1950"s rock music began to pop up after ww2. The dancing that came with this music was worrisome for older generations. Rock and roll came from african american gospel and blues music. Smokey robinson and diana ross and the supremes were seen as the founder. Beatles blew up after the ed sullivan show in 1964. Major bands: the beatles, the who, the rolling stones, the animals. Came from political events such as the escalation of troops in vietnam. Major backlash that disco was the music of the past, mass record burnings. Started in ny with djs at parties. Became popular with the song rapper"s delight(15 minutes long) Began to thrive became of the 808 drum machine: could create beats in a machine and play it back. Old school rap was basically more of dance songs, less messages. New school rap: songs began to get shorter, have more complex rhyming. Beastie boys first rap group to get a #1 album.
