World"s largest steppe zone is referred to as the great steppe. Can sustain large scale herds of horses(hundreds of thousands), also have other large scale herds of other animals. Pastoral nomadism: socioeconomic system based on animal husbandry, cyclical patterns of herding and residence and complex webs of tribal kinship. Nomads just don"t wander, they follow very particular patterns. They go from place to place but have a somewhat built in schedule by seasons. Very high level skills for feeding, training, using and maintaining the health of the animals. Uncivilized. romans say the same about those who don"t speak latin. It then became a general term used by the romans for arabs, armenians, turks and germanic peoples. In chinese it can simply be a term for outsider" or stranger". This was far less offensive cultural connotations. Paradox: absurd or contradictory but which may nevertheless exist; the coexistence of seemingly contradictory elements.
