Apartheid is an afrikaans word; afrikaans is a dutch dialect spoken by nearly 60% of the white south african population. South affric is very much an agricultural nation because the land is very fertile. South africa has a great strategic position along the trade lines passing the horn of africa. This is why the dutch/boers moved in and the british after them. +white of dutch descent were also called an afrikaners. The afrikaners saw themselves as african, they developed an identity as the white tribe of africa. As the british moved in along the coast the afrikaners moved away from the coast to the interior to set up their own afrikaner colonies. At first the british didn"t care about the movement. British and afrikaners started to fight because the afrikaners found gold, diamonds in the interior of south africa. The black africans fought both groups because of course they were before both white groups.
