In many western societies in the pas, homosexuality has been severely punished and viewed as a sin. Throughout the 18th and 19th centuries, all forms of non productive sex were considereds deviant and morally offensive. Rise of scientific medicine in late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries promoted view of human sexuality as matter of health-physical and mental. Heterosexuality was deemed healthy, and homosexualyti sick. Sexual diversity is not only a demographic fact, but also a political reality. Shift from industrial to service and information economy, along with growing female participation in workforce, has altered our view of sexuality and the sexes.
