Latin america is the international studies region with the greatest wealth disparity in the world. While latin america has reduced extreme poverty, the richest 10% controls around 71% of the wealth. In latin america, 2/3 of the agricultural land is owned by 1% of the population. Nowhere in the world is the disparity of land ownership more pronounced than in latin america. Latifundios: huge estates or plantations many established during the colonial period. Mestizos: racially mixed peoples of african and indigenous descent. Latin america"s economy in general depends on exporting commodities. Since 2009 (6 years) less domestic and global demand for commodities caused economic stagnations and halted much of the social progress in latin america. Indigena: original inhabitants of latin american islands and territories.
