The hypothalamus is key in this phase, it will process what we think about food. Brain, hypothalamus, neural controls and how we process and think about food. Appetite- the psychological desire to consume a specific food. Such as cravings for chocolate, salty foods, or cultural food preferences. Hunger- the physiological sensation that triggers one to eat. Hypothalamus- controls hunger, thirst, appetite, and body temperature regulation. It is in the forebrain where there are specialized nerve cells. Aphagia- the satiety center and cells are stimulated by the fed state so the person stops eating. This decreases appetite and decreases eating and swallowing. Salivating, chewing and swallowing are stimulated by the feeding and satiety centers of the hypothalamus, signals are recognized in the lower nerve center of the brain stem.
