Document Summary

Broadcasting is still the world"s most pervasive medium of mass communication. Cable stations provide 50+ stations to american homes. 2010 super bowl had more than 100 million viewers. Broadcasting still dominant delivery system for news. Audio visual medium with its basis in writing. Not much ad-libbing, even live reports are based on notes. Still confined to time and programming restraints. Emergence of the web as a dominant news medium has freed audio journalism from the restraints of radio. Many advantages of learning sound as a reporting tool. Sound can take a story beyond the text. Allows listeners to see with their minds. Audio journalism is evolving and still open to exploration. Audio is very important to mobile journalism. News organizations produce more content than they can show or print. The web is not under these constraints. Traditional broadcasting has low level of interactivity with consumers. Little mechanism for feedback to content creators.
