Non communicable disease results from physiological changes: diabetes: too much sugar in the blood, cancer: damage to dna disrupts cell growth. Disease can also result from injury or disability: car accidents, cerebral palsy from birth trauma. Disease classification: acute v chronic, communicable v non communicable. Acute diseases: develop quickly and last a short time (3 months or less, patient is cured by medical intervention, recovers due to immune system function, or dies, many infectious diseases are acute. Chronic diseases: develop slowly and are long lasting (3 months or longer, some are life-long, medical intervention often manages the disease, extending life by limiting the disease"s effects on the body. Epidemiology: the study of the occurrence of disease in a population (community) Study how, when, and where diseases occur in populations.
