MGT 291 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Organizational Culture, Critical Role, World Wide Web Consortium
Document Summary
Diversity management is intended to create and maintain a positive work environment where the similarities and differences of individuals are valued. The concept of diversity includes acceptance and respect. It requires understanding that each individual is unique, and recognizing our individual differences. These can be along the dimensions of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, age, religious beliefs, political beliefs, etc. It also calls for mutual respect of qualities and experiences that are different from our own. Recognizing that discrimination creates privileges for some while producing disadvantages for others, so that we can build relationships regardless of differences in order to work together to eradicate all forms of discrimination. For a large number of employees to effectively work as an organization, management professionals need to put in place procedures and programs that minimize issues with communication, adaptability, and change.
