As slavery phased out of existence, northern states work on a free labor model. Rapid development of the internal slave trade. 1820, both territories became states, encouraged escalated migration, migrates moving. The end of the transatlantic trade 1808- made it illegal to import slaves from africa to the directly west, from the virginians. Many citizens pushed out to ohio, tennesse, and kentucky. {1807-1812} government sold 1/2 million acres of public land, to raise revenue (only wealthy people had access too it) new territory plantations, more then if they stayed in virginia. People that were already planters in the southeast, and moved everybody to the southwest. The southeasts middle class planters, owned about 30 slaves, no poor but not exactly wealthy. They thought by moving to mississippi territory they would have a better shot at bigger. Moving enslaved people in, meant moving natives out. {1794} cotton gin improved(smaller and more ef cient) by eli whitney.
