Modernization theory: if you make this transformation, then you are developing as a society, undifferiential society means everything the same(underdeveloped) not socially developing, differentiated society means diverse and complex society causing society to develop and grow. Traditional societies: responsible for doing everything within your society, focus on individual, small growth (family, children, local laws and power was shared, family is really, really important. Economic decisions based on family not individual: live in rural areas engaged in farming. Modern societies: specialization classifies you as a modern society, everything in universalism affects you as a family ex: higher oil prices=higher gas prices=less money you have for family, government controls all. Powerful enough to control whole globe: everyone for themselves mentality. Family matters but not ot the point where you take care of them as your own: rural people depend on urban people.
