TE 150 Lecture Notes - Lecture 8: Attention
Document Summary
Attention: the process of selectively concentrating on a certain aspect of information while ignoring other perceivable information, attention (just like short term memory) is a limited cognitive source, attention can be focused on one thing or distributed across more than one thing, what you attend to (and think about) is related to what you learn, consider the modality of attention auditory, visual, and tactile, etc. Why/how does this happen: not attending to the change, attention is someplace else, conscious/unconscious, changes in the foreground are more easily detected than changes in the background. Adhd: about 11% of children have adhd while 2. 5% of adults have adhd, adhd = attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, a persistent pattern of inattention and/or hyperactivity impulsively that interferes with functioning or development, as characterized by inattention and/or hyperactivity/impulsivity, a neurodevelopment disorder with onset in the developmental period.
