Classical music - relates to music composed during the late 18th century (1730-1800) classical music - art music of all ages. Melody - a collection of notes arranged in a way that makes sense to one"s ears. Description of melody: majestic, pleasing, sad, simple, happy, etc. Range - the distance in between the highest and lowest note. Contour - the way the melody moves (are the notes close together or far apart) Cadence - after the melodies develop, they come to a point of rest. Interval - the distance (# of steps) between 2 given notes vertically. 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th (octave) Notes that are close together usually make a floating and easy line. Rhythm - combination of notes of various lengths. Rhythms need to change to make melody interesting. Triple: 1-2-3/1-2-3 (valse/waltz and minuet dances are in this meter) All measures within a piece have the same number of beats.
