Document Summary
Term sometimes refers to art music of all ages. Sometimes relates to music composed during the 18th century. Melody: tune collection of notes arranged in logical ways that makes sense to the ear. Simple, majestic, disjunct, pleasing, sad, dark color, melancholic, dancelike, etc. Range: distance between the lowest and highest note. Contour: the size of intervals between notes in the melody. Most melodies have an emotional peak, or a high point called the climax. All melodies first develop, then come to the point of resolution, called cadence. Some pieces have more than one melody together; the 2nd melody is called a countermelody. Interval: distance (# of steps) between 2 given notes. 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 7rh, 8ve (octave). Intervals are either major (happy), minor (sad), or perfect (pure). Differing intervals have varying aesthetic feel" while also they"re the governing rules of all our music. Different intervals create different emotions and colors.
