Blending inheritance - your person who is of intermediate height will not be passing on a trait for tall or short, but a new trait that is intermediate between the two. Some thought that the pangenes are in the blood. Blending results in the loss of variation. Regression toward the mean - whatever the intermediate trait is will be more common in the population. Natural selection not fully accepted for ~ 40 years. Darwin might have actually read mendel"s paper, but was not focused on inheritence. Hugo de vries and carl correns in 1900 - people run tests very similar to mendel"s work.
