Document Summary
Neurogenic language disorders caused by impairment of the nervous system. Acquired language disorders that happen after birth. Because of a brain injury that disrupts the processes of the brain. Embolus: a moving clot from another part of the body that lodges in the artery. The clot closes the artery, leading to anoxia, or lack of oxygen. Lack of oxygen = dead tissue or an infarct. An aneurysm (weakening in the artery that bulges, then ruptures) causes another type of stroke: Trauma to the head, or traumatic brain injury (tbi) Tbi may be mild-severe depending on focal of injury. The greater the severity greater the impact will be on cognition, speech/language, and movement of limbs. Neoplasms (new growths) and tumors: take up space, applying pressure on brain tissue. Also, may destruct brain tissue depending on the growth. Dementia: progressive deterioration of the brain functions/brain atrophy. Aphasia: language disorder caused by left hemisphere damage.
