Document Summary

Underline words with focused on the sounds (alliteration, assonance, rhyme) Box any words that focus on other poetic devices(simile, metaphor, personification) Write a sentence that summarizes the main idea of the poem. The father has been drinking, and waltzing with the little boy, but the waltz could be a metaphor for him really beating the boy, while the mother stands by. Reflect: write a few sentences describing your response to this poem. This poem reminds me of the steps to a waltz. It goes up and down, rhyme after rhyme. It makes me think of the deeper meanings that are behind the poem. It seems like a boy dancing with his father, but it might not be so. I didn"t understand why the father was dancing after he had been drinking, and it makes more sense that he was actually beating the kid, while he was drunk. Dancing feet was a good choice in my opinion.
