Document Summary

In oxidation, proton and electrons are removed which is equivalent to removing a h atom bc it is made of 1 p and 1 e: a lot of oxidations remove h atoms, called dehydrogenation rxns. Sometimes, though two protons and two electrons are removed in oxidation, reduction only gives 2 electrons and 1 proton. 1 proton is lost into surroundings: ex: org molecule give nad+ 1 proton and 2 e to make nadh and h+ in, energy released from oxidation reduction rxns is used for making atp surroundings, making atp. Lipids: anabolic processes use the smaller building blocks from catabolic processes to make stuff for the cell. Some small molecules not used and instead go to citric acid cycle (krebs) where they are oxidized and release co2 in process: true products of krebs cycle will go thru etc to release energy through oxidative phosphorylation.
