Document Summary

Created the lyceum, a school in athens: aristotle thought he would be asked to take over the academy after socrates died, he was passed over for someone else, after this, aristotle created his own school: the lyceum. Plato and aristotle were very different in beliefs and focuses of study: plato. Psychology, natural sciences, political science, etc. tend to have roots in. Aristotle was the first, or one of the first, to say that whales are mammals, not fish. Aristotle"s corpus: much of aristotle"s written work has been lost over time, much of what we do have is unpolished. These writings are more like working lecture notes: aristotle"s writings are much denser than plato"s. Nicomachean ethics: a collection of aristotle"s manuscripts that aristotle"s son, nicomachus, put together, not a crisp, well-organized work. More like notes: it is often considered the first systematic look at ethics or studies of morality.
