Document Summary

What we"re trying to evaluate when watching film is the intention of the movie. What i choose to take the picture of and what i choose to ignore creates the meaning of the film (how i point the camera) Cameras determine the subject matter, not the other way around. Ex: just like piano-playing and painting, a painter or pianist leaves things out; bad players or painters try to do everything. Need at least two people to make a film: sound person and cameraman, but usually need 3 people. Making films determined by the way authenticity is created by actually doing the filming. Words are the basic units of meaning, but not on their own. In order to create meaning using words need to use grammar. All of filmmaking has its own grammar. The basic unit of a film is the shot.
