NUTR 546 Lecture Notes - Lecture 10: Kilogram, Saturated Fat, Glycogen
Document Summary
To best serve the athletes that we are working with, we need to thoroughly understand the level of physical activity that is required by their chosen activity/sport. We must understand their day-to-day schedule, as well as, how their training differs throughout the course of the year. Figure 10. 1 from our textbook shows an example of nutrition periodization for a female collegiate rower. Her yearly routine is sub-divided into 4 different categories: general training, specific training, racing season, and active recovery or off season . For this specific athlete we would need to address all 4 dietary phases and adapt our recommendations to match her activity schedule. In this media lecture we will only focus on one specific time period, but please understand that one basic diet plan would not be adequate for an athlete year round. Usually the most appropriate place to start is with total energy needs or kcals.
