Holds no nutrients, but holds the plant in place. Nutrient film technique (nft): doesn t use media. Nutrient solution is pumped and run past the plants that growing. Wick, ebb and flow, drip, water culture, aeroponic, nft. When it leaves the system, you have to then dispose of it. Closed systems: nutrients are captured and reused.
