Dwarfism in some grain crops such as rice is related to ga pathway. In rice, they have a reduced stem elongation (shorter internodes) and produce a limited amount of ga synthesis. In dwarf wheat types, ga is synthesized but it does not exert necessary genetic effect. Many pgrs interfere with plant synthesis of ga thus promoting short and bushy plants. Short bushy plants with lots of flowers are the objective. Some can be applied foliarly, but mostly they interact with the ga cycle, maybe affect the receiving end of the signal. Are naturally occurring plant hormones that promote cellular division (cytokinesis) First discovered in the coconut endosperm (liquid) because it was a good source for plants being grown in tissue culture. Coconut milk seemed to have some positive effect on tissue culture plants beginning to grow. Can be measured in parts per billion (ppb) small quantities.
