Document Summary

Biological psychology- study of cells and organs of the body and the physical and chemical. Notes 3 changes involved in behavior and mental processes. External stimuli are converted into forms you can work with. Chemicals = tastes or smells: processing. You make sense of what is going on and can interpret the stimulation. Every sense has a processing stimuli: output. You respond to the stimuli and take action. Neurons are specialized cells that send and receive signals: neurons have cell membrane, nucleus, normal cell things. Glial cells- cells that hold neurons together, repair damage, direct neural growth. Dendrites- string things coming off of neurons that receive impulses. Action potential- an electrochemical pulse that shoots down the axon: allows signaling between neurons, action potential shoots down axon away from cell body, neurotransmitter is released into the synapse where the dendrites of nearby neurons detect it.
