Can have an influence on cell shape, gene expression, cell division. Adhere ecm components to each other and to cell membranes. Collagen provides tensile strength and is found in bone, cartilage tendon and skin. Differ by the types of tissues they are found in and when they are found in development. Arteries, skin, internal organs, and around muscles. Skin, intestine, & kidneys; also found around capillaries. Collagen that was originally put into the skin is different from the one that the scar put into it. Negatively charged carbs: attracts water and positive ions. Advantageous when something is under much pressure. Tissues were broken up into indivi cells. Cells from each tissues sorted themselves out and adhered to form new tissues. How do the cells know where their matches are.
