Il2 stimulates activated helper t cells to divide forming clones of itself. Il2 stimulate mitosis and maturation of activated cytotoxic t and/or b cell, which recognize the same specific antigen. Many clones of same antigen specific th cell, tc cell and b cell created. Other than a few exceptions, activated b and tc cells cannot adequately fxn unless stimulated by cytokines from th cells: il2 attract and activate nk cells. Increases nk proliferation and nk killing of diseased body cells: il2 attract and activate macrophages, some macrophages becomes activated super hulks : can now secrete chemicals: Ros and capable of killing diseased body cells and cancer cells in a variety of ways: cytokines stimulate inflammation and other nonspecific defenses, th release type ii interferon: also activated some macrophages and nk cells.
