Individual abilities are important but not always predictive of team success. Actual productivity = potential productivity - group faults. Motivation - occurs when players don"t give 100% effort b/c they think one player can do it all. Coordination/communication - timing between teammates is off, little discussion during play. Ringlemann effect individual performance decreases as number of people in group increases. Less than 100% effort given due to motivation loss. Other individuals seen as high in ability . Evolving process in which groups unite and stick together in the pursuit of their goals. Multidimensional many factors why group sticks together. Task cohesion team members working together to achieve goals/objectives. Explains how teams can overcome conflict and still be successful. Personal factors (individual orientation, satisfaction, individual differences) Leadership factors (leadership behavior, leadership style, coach-athlete personalities) Team factors (group task, desire for group success, group orientation, group productivity norm, team ability, team stability) Group outcomes (team stability, absolute performance effectiveness)
