Piaget"s stages of moral reasoning: heteronomous: strict adherence to rules and duties and obedience to authority (age 4-7) 2: autonomous cooperation: understanding that rules and laws are created by people, and rules can be changed, they aren"t impose from the outside (age 10+) Immanent justice: the idea that when a rule is broke, punishment will be given out immediately. Care orientation: the desire to maintain relationships and feeling a responsibility not to hurt others (females) Justice orientation: based on abstract principles of fairness and individualism (males) Baumrind"s parenting styles: authoritarian: controlling, punitive, rigid, cold. Expect unquestioning obedience from their children: permissive: place little or no control on children"s behavior. Require little of their children, and don"t take much responsibility for how their children turn out: authoritative: firm, setting clear consistent limits.
