Document Summary

Learning fundamentally shapes who we are and how we behave. Definition: relatively durable change in behavior or knowledge that is due to experience. All organisms learn, it is necessary for survival. Types of learning: rudimentary learning: built in to the organism, learning through association classical conditioning, learning through consequences operant conditioning, learning through imitation observational learning. Habituation: repeat neutral stimulus, decreased response: learnt that the noise has no consequences and thus you will stop responding, less likely to happen if stimulus is threatening. Sensitization: become more sensitive after threatening stimulus [need to pay extra attention to it] Conditioning: learning through forming associations between experiences extremely simple form of learning, can take place in the womb (for example associating words with relaxation) Noticed dogs would begin to salivate even before the meat powder were present. Designed an experiment to verify this observation: meat saliva, bell meat, bell saliva.
