Document Summary

Definition of learning: a relatively enduring change in behavior resulting from experience. Associations develop through conditioning in which environmental stimuli and behavioral responses become connected. Watson"s learning theory: argued that only observable behavior was a valid indicator of psychological activity, and that the infant mind was a tabula rasa meaning blank slate. He also says that the environment and its effects were the sole determinants of learning. Little albert experiment with white mask, rat, and rabbit. How do we learn: three types of learning. Nonassociative: responding after repeated exposure to a single stimulus or event, decrease in response, increase in sensitization, increase in dishabilitation. Example: dog responding a slammed door but over time gradually gets used to the loud noise. Associative learning: linking 2 stimuli or events that occur together. Stimuli that are threatening or painful most often lead to sensitization. How do we learn predictive associations: conditioning.
